As the journey continues, visitors move from the daylight into the studio. A number of displays provide an insight into projects by German artists, buildings full of creativity and workshops that contribute to the cultural balance in the city and among its inhabitants. The vitality and variety of German culture can be seen not only in Gunter Demnig’s “Stolpersteine” project, which serves as a memorial to victims of National Socialism and has changed the face of German cities, but also in the presentation of RUHR.2010, Europe’s Capital of Culture in the EXPO year. There is also a book tower, where visitors can listen to important works by German authors, and colourful masks worn for the Swabian-Alemannic carnival. Many of these displays give visitors the opportunity to get involved themselves, be creative and thus to contribute to the vitality of the room.
