A new, large room unfolds out of an urban skyline, with oversized plans, models and sketches protruding from the walls and floor. The theme here is innovative, sustainable urban planning and development, depicting the urban infrastructure as a living process. The examples on show include “HafenCity Hamburg” (Europe’s largest, inner-city, sustainable urban development project), the Schlierberg solar estate in Freiburg with its PlusEnergy houses and conversions of large housing estates, demonstrating how old prefab estates can be revitalised by means of
targeted demolition and well-thought-out landscape architecture.

Social sustainability will also be one of the topics in this room. The “multi-generation homes” action programme will show how people of different origins and generations can enter into a dialogue and benefit from one another.
